Benjamin Franklin

About

An American polymath who was active as a writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher. Among the leading intellectuals of his time, Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and the first United States Postmaster General. As a scientist, he was a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. As an inventor, he is known for the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin stove, among other inventions.

He is best known as the only Founding Father who signed all three documents that freed America from Britain Franklin is credited with drafting the Declaration of Independence and the American Constitution.

At the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was asked, “What have you wrought?” He answered, “…a Republic, if you can keep it."

Richard Montgomery,Congress appropriated funds for a memorial and tasked Benjamin Franklin with its execution. A national memorial service was held in all the colonies in Feb 19, 1776.

Solomon Townsend,The British used Glasgow, with Solomon as Captain, causing Solomon to seek an Oath of Allegiance from Benjamin Franklin in 1778 in Paris to prove patriotism, despite having captained a British ship.
